For the Romans, the moment of the meal was an important element social distinction: it was used to put in perspective each individual in space, time and the society. Thus after the plays, the triumphs or the spectacles, which were held for example on the site of the Gallien Palate, in Burdigala (Bordeaux), the Roman or Gallic rich pepeole of the city organized sumptuous convivium or banquets. These gigantic festivals were accompanied or spoursuivaient by an enormous wine consumption, meats, fruits and vegetables.
